KEDS catches several businesses in Pristina stealing electricity during a large-scale operation with the police
KEDS is conducting intensive operations against electricity misuse, accompanied by the Kosovo Police. During an operation in Pristina, five businesses were caught stealing electricity in a single day.
With the intensification of inspections for electricity misuse, the number of cases of offenders being caught has also increased. In all the cases identified, the electricity meters had been bypassed, meaning that the electricity consumed by these businesses was being stolen.
The first consequence these businesses will face is the Reclaim Losses caused to KEDS. According to current regulations, for businesses, the calculation of losses is based on the power of the equipment connected illegally, over a one-year operating period. For example, last year, a business caught misusing electricity was required to compensate KEDS with over 50,000 euros as part of the Reclaim Losses calculation.
But that's not all!
Electricity misuse, besides being unacceptable, is also punishable under the laws of the Republic of Kosovo. The owners of these businesses will now face an unavoidable legal process, which could result in fines or imprisonment of up to three years. According to the Penal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, electricity theft falls under the category of Service Theft.
KEDS takes this opportunity to inform all household and commercial consumers that it has intensified inspections against electricity misuse, day and night, across Kosovo.
The company remains committed to combating the phenomenon of electricity misuse and maintains ZERO tolerance for anyone tempted to commit such an unacceptable act.
