In 2023, KEDS submitted to the competent courts of the Republic of Kosovo 2,317 cases against the misuse of electricity. All cases reviewed so far have been won by the company. Meanwhile, the rest are expected to be reviewed this year.

By fighting the phenomenon of misuse of electricity in legal ways, KEDS is not only protecting the energy infrastructure but also expressing the company's determination and stance against illegal practices that endanger the security and stability of the electricity network.

Misuse of electricity falls within the scope of "Theft of Services", which according to Article 314 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo is considered a criminal offense and, as such, is punishable by up to three years in prison.

Through the "Electricity costs you cheaper" campaign, KEDS is constantly informing the general public about the consequences that anyone who misuses electricity can have.

KEDS remains committed to fighting the misuse of electricity, not only to reduce network losses but also to protect the interests of conscientious consumers, because electricity theft, among other things, compromises the safety of others and surrounding properties.

As such, KEDS is continuing with numerous inspections daily throughout Kosovo. During the period January-December 2023, control teams have carried out nearly 100,000 inspections on consumers suspected of misuse of electricity, of which 6,710 have been identified as misusers.
