Rugova is now a reality. A significant multi-million investment by KEDS and the Municipality of Peja has made one of the most beautiful parts of Kosovo shine brighter, longer, and better.

The inauguration of this important project was led by KEDS Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alpin Dogan, and the Mayor of Peja, Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri, alongside their management teams. KFOR, along with local citizens and business owners, also joined in the celebration.

The leaders of KEDS and the Municipality of Peja expressed satisfaction in making a substantial contribution to the development of one of Kosovo’s most touristic areas. They reflected on the challenging journey since 2021, overcoming numerous obstacles to reach this milestone. However, the dedication of both institutions—KEDS and the Municipality of Peja—has paid off, allowing Rugova to now develop more easily and freely.

A major portion of the new line runs underground along the main road to Kuqishte, continuing up to Bogë and Stankaj on one side, and branching towards restaurants near Liqenat on the other. Before reaching Kuqishte, the line stops briefly at the Ujë Rugove factory and branches out to nearby villages, totaling approximately 80 kilometers of medium-voltage lines—the longest in the country—and includes around 50 transformers.

Many kilometers of this new network are already operational, replacing the old network, which was in poor condition and ran on wooden poles across mountainous terrain. Maintaining the old network, especially during winter, was challenging due to heavy snowfall. The old network will be fully retired in the shortest possible time.

Now, the new network is easily accessible, running alongside the road in every direction and junction. Hundreds of families in Rugova, as well as many businesses—mainly restaurants, hotels, and guesthouses—will benefit from more reliable and secure electricity services.

Known as "Dalja e Rugova," the new line includes multiple branches. In the event of an unexpected issue, only a small group of consumers would be affected, rather than the entire area.

This project is one of hundreds of capital investments KEDS is implementing across Kosovo this year.
